Great Glen Way

The Great Glen Way can be walked in 4 – 7 days, staying overnight in the various communities along the way, and suits all levels of walker. For the most part the route is low-level and mainly follows canal towpaths, forest tracks and roads. There are some challenging sections though. Keep an eye out for osprey, golden eagles, red kite and deer while enjoying the views available from this low-level yet challenging long distance route.

Falls of Foyers

The Fall of Foyers (Scottish Gaelic: Eas na Smùide, meaning the smoking falls) is a waterfall on the River Foyers, which feeds Loch Ness. It is located on the lower portion of the River Foyers, and drops 165 feet (50 m).

Corrimony

Walk amongst a circle of standing stones and discover this ancient passage grave, dating back 4,000 years. Corrimony Chambered Cairn is a ‘Clava type’ cairn in a remarkable state of preservation. Well worth a visit, especially if you are planning a day trip to Glen Affric

Nairn Beach

Nairn Beach is backed by low sand dunes and a promenade with an open, grassy links area. Central Beach stretches from The Nairn Golf Club in the West End to the Harbour at Fishertown, with stunning views over the Moray Firth towards Cromarty. You’ll enjoy magnificent sunsets here throughout the year and even more magical glimpses of the Northern Lights in the dark skies over the Firth during winter.

This superb sandy beach in the middle of Nairn is a fantastic attraction and popular with families, particularly in the summer months. Its coastline is home to a resident school of dolphins. There is also a great range of coastal walks in either direction with a nature reserve at Kingsteps in the east and a viewpoint to the west.

Findhorn Bay

The ‘Bay’ is not a true bay at all, but a large tidal basin. It is enclosed by the villages of Kinloss and Findhorn to the east, and Culbin Forest to the west. Opposite Findhorn Village, the beach is home to a mixed colony of grey and common seals. Common eiders can be seen offshore and European herring gulls fly around the general area.
In the winter, the bay is home to a roost of at least 10,000 pink-footed geese.
